Message from the Chairman

As Chairman for 2007/2008, I am extremely proud of the opportunities SOPA has been able to create for local and international media brands in Asia since its founding in 1982. Over the past 25 years, SOPA has dedicated itself to preserving freedom of the press in the Asia region and to ensuring that independent, quality, journalism is observed, encouraged and acknowledged. Our mission is an uncompromising dedication to responsible journalism with integrity that is the cornerstone of every free society.

As the 21st century advances, publishers are faced with new challenges to their traditional business models, as more and more content migrates online and audiences continue to fragment into ever smaller clusters of interested and engaged consumers who seek both information and diversion from their online experience.

With this in mind, I am delighted to unveil our new website design and hope that you will find the new, enhanced, features useful as you navigate the site. Over the coming months, we will be looking to build out this content, with a view to making the SOPA site a destination of value to all regional and local publishers alike.
