Excellence in Business Reporting

Winner: Financial Times (Seven Months Ahead of the Pack)
Honorable Mention: BusinessWeek (Why Taiwan Matters)

Seven Months Ahead of the Pack - "Broke story on CNOOC bid, maintained the lead in coverage and explained internal tensions within CNOOC, profiled chief executive. Consistently breaking news on one of the most important business stories of 2005, but always tempered articles with warnings about the high risk game for the company. A first-class job of breaking a major story, then staying on top of it with concise, well-balanced analysis. Great scoop, thorough coverage and good angles."

Excellence in Human Rights Reporting

Winner: TIME Asia (Caught in the Middle)
Honorable Mention: International Herald Tribune (Rule of Law in China)

Caught in the Middle - "This is a high class piece which must have been written with some risks to the reporter going into the area between Thailand and Burma. Highlights the tragedy of these forgotten, inconvenient people being pushed between two regimes. States their problem starkly but raises serious issues about the need to do something about their plight."

Simone Wheeler, Marketing Director APAC of Factiva, presents an award to Newsweek's Alexandra Seno for Excellence in Feature Photography, Category A

Excellence in Feature Photography

Winner: Newsweek (Continental Divide)
Honorable Mention: TIME Asia (Inside the Hermit Kingdom)

Continental Divide - "Covering an issue that is often overlooked in Asia, this piece sheds a new light. The opening shot by Paolo Pallegrin catches the reader's eyes and brings the feeling of poverty. Bertrand Meunier's image of a scavenger or farmer searching the field in front of an old tire also gives the stark image of poverty in Asia. The mix of black and white and colour photography is very daring but it works to bring out the issue overall."

Excellence in News Photography
