Leonard M. Apcar

 

Leonard M. Apcar has been a correspondent and editor for more than 30 years first for The Wall Street Journal and later for The New York Times and its global edition, the International Herald Tribune.

 

Before leaving Hong Kong this spring to take up a new post in Washington, he served for nearly four years as deputy managing editor of the Herald Tribune and chief Asia editor. The award-winning Asia edition was one of the leading international newspapers in the region. Previously, Mr. Apcar was editor-in-chief for NYTimes.com, the world's largest newspaper web site. Under his leadership, the site, which is considered an industry pacesetter, won numerous awards. He lectures frequently on web journalism, strategy and product development.

 

In Washington, Mr. Apcar is economics editor for The New York Times directing coverage of economic policy, the Treasury, Federal Reserve and business and financial regulators.

 

While in Hong Kong, Mr. Apcar was a member of the award subcommittee of the Society of Publishers in Asia and an advisor to the Pulitzer Prize Winners Workshop at Hong Kong Baptist University. In the U.S., he is a board member emeritus of the National Press Foundation and a former board member of the Online News Association.
