Peter Stein, The Wall Street Journal, Associate Editor, The Wall
Street Journal Asia
As Hong Kong bureau chief of The Wall Street Journal,
Peter Stein runs a team of ten journalists who cover a broad range
of Asia-wide industry beats, including finance, M&A, technology,
media, marketing, travel, aviation and health. As The Wall Street
Journal Asia's Associate Editor, Mr. Stein does public representation
on behalf of The Wall Street Journal's Asian edition, is involved
with expansion initiatives for the franchise and oversees its growing
Chinese language Web site.
Previously, Mr. Stein was managing editor for what was
then called The Asian Wall Street Journal for seven years. He also
served as the senior Hong Kong correspondent, writing on a broad
range of issues surrounding the transfer of Hong Kong from British
to Chinese sovereignty and coordinating the paper's Hong Kong coverage.
He joined The Asian Wall Street Journal in 1989 after spending two
years in Wuhan, China on a Yale-China Association fellowship, teaching
English at Huazhong Normal University and studying Chinese. He graduated
from Yale University with a bachelor's degree in comparative literature,
and speaks both Mandarin and Cantonese.
